Brothers,
The entire
Chapter is excited and eager for this fall, 2008 semester to get
underway. The Pike house is teeming with Brothers and Rush
Chairman Julian Garcia and his Rush Captains are directing
an intense Summer Rush.
Brothers are preparing to defend their 2008 Overall Intramural
Sports Championship, our sixth overall title in the past eight
years. We'll also be attempting to win our fifth consecutive flag
football title. For each of the last three years, Pike has won
the Intramurals' fabled Triple Crown: championships in Football,
Basketball and Softball.
Our Fraternity is especially proud of Brother Joe O'Shea '04
who has been selected as the 2008 Robertson Award winner
designating Pi Kappa Alpha's National Fraternity's Most Outstanding
Undergraduate. Joe is 2007-08 Student Body President, and was
named a 2008 Rhodes Scholar. Last year, Joe's younger brother
and fall pledge class president Jesse O'Shea '07 was chosen
for the honor of being Delta Lambda's two-thousandth initiate.
The freshman has already distinguished himself by becoming President
of the Student United Way.
All undergraduate and alumni Pike Brothers will be cheering on
the Seminoles this fall. Pike Brothers on the 2008 team include
fullback Joe Surratt '05 back for his senior season. Joe
was out with a broken leg in 2007, but was the team's leading
scorer with six rushing touchdowns in 2006. Brother D.J. Norris
'05 played defensive end until a shoulder injury sidelined
his career; he now is a volunteer coach for the 'Noles.
Two of the Seminoles' quarterbacks are Pikes: redshirt freshman
D'Vontrey Richardson '07 and freshman Andrew Nowels
'07. Executive Head Coach Chuck Amato said "D'Vontrey
could become the LeBron James of football."
Brother
Recardo Wright '07 was named "Most Improved Linebacker"
by FSU coaches at the end of spring practice. Wright is a rising
junior. Walk-on sophomore safety Brother Michael Schill '08
also is a member of the Seminole Track team.
Florida State's varsity Track & Field team won its third
consecutive National Championship in the summer of 2008. Senior
biomedical engineering major Brother Matt Wernke '05 throws
the hammer. Tommy Beltz '06 throws the javelin, and Mike
Fingado '06 runs the hurdles for the Seminoles.
During the 2007-08 school year, Pike Brothers wore the Garnet
& Gold for FSU on Seminole football, swimming, lacrosse,
hockey, soccer and track teams.
I look forward to welcoming alumni back to the house this fall
on football weekends. I also encourage any interested alumni to
attend initiation and renew your connection to our Fraternity
Ritual.
