The Old Guard is Delta Lambda’s Alumni Annual Fund. Your gift goes toward strengthening the Bonds among alumni, enriching both the alumni and undergraduate Delta Lambda experience. Seminole Baseball Captain Jamie Arnold ‘22 is a sophomore LHP; First Team All-ACC; his dad Jimmy Arnold is a Pike from UCF.
Seminole Basketball Captain Taylor Bol Bowen ’24 is a 6’10” forward; 1st Team All-ACC Academic.
Our 10-loss football season aside, FSU’s special teams unit ranked #1 in the nation in ESPN Special Teams Efficiency Rankings. A pair of Pikes are star performers.
Lou Groza Award finalist Ryan Fitzgerald ’19 finished the year 13-for-13 on field goals, including 5-for-5 from at least 50 yards in 2024. His 13 made field goals are the most in the country without a miss this season, and he joins 2013 Groza Award winner Roberto Aguayo ’12 as the only Seminoles to make their first 13 field goals in a season (14 in 2014). Fitzgerald ended his Florida State career having made 112 consecutive PATs.
Ray Guy Award finalist Alex Mastromanno ’21 played in his 59th career game, the most in Florida State history. Mastromanno entered Saturday leading the country in punting average (49.1) and 50+-yard punts (28); he averaged 51.4 yards on five punts with a long of 62 against the Gators. He is now averaging 49.3 yards per punt with 30 punts of at least 50 yards.

Jimmy Keen ’73 wrote, “Randall and I were close Brothers when he was SMC and I was a pledge. I travelled to North Carolina to meet him for four days of golf at a resort.”
Andy Miller ’70 remembers, “Randal was a bigger than life character. Great Brother, and friend to many. The last time I saw him, he and I spent a night at Waffle House. I value that time we spent together and will always fondly remember Randy.”
Lou Andreana ‘79
Jeff Hattem ‘81: “A very sad loss to our community today. Sweet Lou and I were close for a few years after college. I remember him telling me how he met his wife when she worked in the Galleria Mall and he went every day to talk to her until she finally agreed to go on a date. Big Lou was beyond the shadow a doubt the jolliest and sweetest soul I have ever met. Rest in Peach Louis Andreanna. You are now with your best friend Steve Goodloe ’79 in Heaven, a loss shortly after college that absolutely devastated him. My heart is heavy for his wife and step-daughter who he loved so much.”
Chuck Cottrell ‘80: “Brothers mine, wanted to let you know that Lou Andreana passed on at 0715. Rest in peace, Sweet Lou… Ut Nunc in pace… I’m sure that Steve Goodloe ‘79 and Paul Reddish ’82 are thrilled to have him around now, along with our other faithful departed Bros. ΦΦΚΑ – Cottrell”
Judge John Hurley ’79: “My lifetime friend and pledge brother Lou Andreana passed away on November 23, after entering hospice here in Ft. Lauderdale.
Lou and I played little league together. We played on our high school football team together (he was a running back; I saw him get his helmet ripped off, and run for another 20 yards until a defender caught him!). Lou was voted "Best Personality," of our senior class. We both pledged Delta Lambda in the Fall of '79. Lou was named "Pledge of the Year," for the '79-'80 school year.
During his years at FSU, Lou buzzed around campus in his red Fiat convertible (he once pointed out that a keg fit perfectly in the smallish backseat). His second vehicle was an older blue chevy van, which became known as the "death van."
After graduation, Lou and I stayed close while we both lived in Ft. Lauderdale.
At one point, when we were both single and in our 30s, we travelled to London for Christmas and then walked down the Champs de Elysee, in Paris on New Year's Eve.
Lou earned an MBA in his 40s, and went on to create a successful real estate investing business. In fact, he became so successful that, over the last 15 years he spent at least 10 days per month on a cruise ship, somewhere around the world.
About three weeks before his stroke, Lou asked if we could have breakfast together. He was using a walker, and probably hadn’t left his house in months. After breakfast, Lou asked if we could just go on a drive, past the little league baseball field where we had played, past the local airport where we learned to fly, all the places we knew as boys together.
Lou reminisced and spun yarns about Chapter Days back at the Pike house. Looking back now, I think that he knew his time was at hand.”

Bill Beaton ’79: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to report our friend & Brother Desmond Harrington ’81 “Demy” has passed away. He died in Boquete, Panama of a heart attack. Demy pledged Spring ’81, graduating with Honors, Dean’s List, and a member of Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society. Demi served his Country in the United States Maines. Afterward, he was recruited by IBM in Panama. He is survived by his only daughter Valerie Harrington. Demy was a “True Marine”. Godspeed my friend! You will always be remembered by your Pike Brothers!”
Dave Henry ‘81: “Godspeed Desmond. You were one of the best and the brightest. A true Pike. I will never forget your epic intramural wrestling matches. It pains me that you fell upon hard times. Phi Phi K A”
Anthony Cabrera ‘81: “What a great Brother and person. Loved hanging with him in Miami the years right out of college. Always cared very much for his friends and family. A few years ago, he kept a watchful eye on my daughter her best friend when they were in Panama for World Youth Day! We felt much better knowing Uncle Demy was there for them. Always in our prayers.”
